A FIREMAN was knocked off his bike and ‘left for dead’ after being hit by a car on a roundabout.

Justin Hill, 54, from Waunarlwydd, was cycling through Llanelli when a car hit him off his bike and he fell onto the bonnet of the car before landing ‘on the road on his head.’

Mr Hill has been left with concussion and cannot currently work as a result of the incident.

His sister-in-law, Emma Hill, said: “He was out training, as he’s a fireman he’s got to keep fit, so he regularly cycles long distances.

“He was on the Llanelli link road on a roundabout and he was hit by a car. It wasn’t exiting, he was hit as they were going around the side of the roundabout.

“He went onto the bonnet, he remembers being on the car and then landing on the road on his head. Then he remembers lying on the road, flat out, totally still and thinking that he should move but that he couldn’t as he was on a roundabout.

“The driver just kept going.”

Other cyclists and drivers stopped to help Mr Hill, who works as a fireman in Swansea, and called the police who later took him to Prince Philip Hospital to have X-rays.

“People thought he was dead as he was spread out on the roundabout,” his sister-in-law added.

“They took him to hospital and he was beaten and bruised and they think he may have dislocated his shoulder.

“His helmet saved him. It’s badly damaged as his head and shoulders took the main hit.”

Mr Hill, who is still suffering with concussion, said the incident had made him feel ‘frustrated’ as he couldn’t drive and was now not able to work.

He is also unable to travel to visit his dad who is currently in Morriston Hospital after having a fall.

His sister-in-law, Mrs Hill, added: “Justin is a lovely, hardworking bloke.

“Accidents happen but to not stop and leave him for dead on the middle of a roundabout is a terrible thing to happen to anyone.”

A Dyfed-powys Police spokeswoman said: “Dyfed-powys Police received a report a cyclist had been in a collision with a car at Delta Lake roundabout, Llanelli, shortly before 9.50am on Tuesday, December 4.

“The driver failed to stop.

“The cyclist was taken to hospital.

“Officers are investigating and anyone with information is asked to report it by calling 101. Quote reference DP-20181204-081.”
