Man dies and mo­tor­way is closed af­ter car hits sign along M4

A MAN has died af­ter an early morn­ing crash on the M4.

A blue Vaux­hall Vec­tra was the only car in­volved in the crash near the Pont Abra­ham round­about, in Car­marthen­shire.

Fire crews said the car had hit a mo­tor­way sign in the are and the mo­tor­way was closed for a pe­riod.

The alarm was raised shortly be­fore 4am on Fri­day and emer­gency ser­vices were sent to the scene. Dyfed-powys Po­lice said: “Sadly the driver died. His next of kin has been in­formed.”

The east­bound car­riage­way was closed for sev­eral hours to al­low for in­ves­ti­ga­tion work but re­opened around 9am.

Po­lice are ap­peal­ing for any wit­nesses to get in touch by call­ing 101 and quot­ing ref­er­ence DP-20181207-023.

It was one of a se­ries of crashes on the roads in South Wales yes­ter­day morn­ing as the re­gion was bat­tered by heavy rain and strong winds.

An­other per­son was taken to Glang­wili Hos­pi­tal af­ter a crash on the A476 be­tween Tum­ble and Llan­non, in Car­marthen­shire.
