Man dies and motorway is closed after car hits sign along M4
A MAN has died after an early morning crash on the M4.
A blue Vauxhall Vectra was the only car involved in the crash near the Pont Abraham roundabout, in Carmarthenshire.
Fire crews said the car had hit a motorway sign in the are and the motorway was closed for a period.
The alarm was raised shortly before 4am on Friday and emergency services were sent to the scene. Dyfed-powys Police said: “Sadly the driver died. His next of kin has been informed.”
The eastbound carriageway was closed for several hours to allow for investigation work but reopened around 9am.
Police are appealing for any witnesses to get in touch by calling 101 and quoting reference DP-20181207-023.
It was one of a series of crashes on the roads in South Wales yesterday morning as the region was battered by heavy rain and strong winds.
Another person was taken to Glangwili Hospital after a crash on the A476 between Tumble and Llannon, in Carmarthenshire.
