YOUR VIEWS ON: BAR ‘REVENGE’; TREE PETITION GRADE ONE LISTED BUILDINGS

-

A CUSTOMER thrown out of a bar took his “revenge” by returning in the early hours and smashing a dozen of its windows – just days after being given a suspended jail sentence. You said:

STEVE DONOGHUE This is what happens when you turn a part of a city into a ‘drunken paradise’. STUART MANNING Yeah, because this happens all the time! HYWEL GRIFFITHS I think its got more to do with him being a 37-year-old man who obviously still has some growing up to do. ALISON EVANS Give him the bill, and if he spends the rest of his life paying it off so be it.

A PETITION has been launched to prosecute the “vandals who destroyed” a giant redwood tree in Penllergaer which had a preservation order. Here’s what you thought about it . . . MARK ARNOLD I’m sure if I turned up and chopped down a tree I’d soon be arrested and charged with criminal damage, fined and receive a suspended jail sentence but I’m sure those responsible won’t even get a ‘strongly worded letter’! ASHLEY LOVERING I would have thought that when the council sold and gave planning permission to the company they would have made 100% sure that no trees would be cut down. THERE are more than 500 listed buildings in Swansea – ranging from telephone boxes to commercial properties – but only eight have been classed grade one, meaning they are of exceptional interest. Here’s what you said about them: JACKI SHAW The truth is that there are other buildings in Swansea that should have grade one status, that way the owners will have to maintain them... the Palace Theatre and The Elysium, The Albert Hall to name just three. We have fantastic old buildings from the industrial era when Swansea was an extremely wealthy city. These buildings should be maintained. ANITA AAMP All well and good, but many others that had, or should have had, listed status have been demolished to make way for bland, modern builds. Similarly, others are allowed to rot away into nonexistence. For example, the beautiful Art Deco Plaza, the Elysium and Palace, the Slip Bridge, goodness knows how many churches and chapels, and many others. I appreciate many are privately owned, but it has always been possible to issue preservation and maintenance orders.
