Man killed himself same day he was quizzed by police on sexual abuse allegations

-

A MAN killed himself the same day police interviewed him on child sexual abuse allegations.

In February 2018, Children’s Services notified Dyfed-powys Police it had received a complaint of child sexual abuse, made against a man by a young girl.

The man, who hasn’t been named as part of the investigation by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), denied all the allegations made against him during a police interview.

In the published summary of the report, it said: “Children’s Services advised that the girl was vulnerable.

“Following receipt of this report, officers conducted an initial first account interview with the alleged victim that day.

“Other officers made arrangements for the man to attend a police station later the same day, where he was interviewed as a voluntary attendee.

“During this interview, he denied all of the allegations made against him.”

Later that same evening the man was found dead in his car, it states in the summary, adding that an inquest recorded a verdict of suicide.

IOPC investigators obtained documentation relating to the allegations made by the girl, and the man’s interview.

Investigators also obtained written accounts from the officers who interacted with the man and the girl’s mother when they received the complaint.

The summary concludes: “Based on the evidence available we found no indication that any person serving with the police may have behaved in a manner that would justify the bringing of disciplinary proceedings, or had committed a criminal offence.”

A spokesman for Dyfedpowys Police said: “The death of anyone following police contact is a matter of deep regret and our thoughts and sympathies remain with all those affected.”
