TWO Santa runs took place over the weekend with hundreds of hardy souls donning their festive outfits.

Despite the wind and rain battering competitors, the Aberavon and Pontardawe events saw runners getting into the Christmas spirit.

Both runs were 5k and more than 300 turned up for the Aberavon event, now in its fifth year, organised by Run4all Neath running club.

A further 100 people took part in the Pontardawe event, which went through the industrial estate, along the canal path and into the town.

Race referee for both events Nigel Evans said: “Both runs were very well attended despite the bad weather.

“Saturday in Aberavon we had 319 runners taking part along the seafront. It was wet and wild with the weather but everyone enjoyed it and dressed up in their Santa outfits.”

Turning to Pontardawe he said: “This was organised by Pontardawe Running Club. We had a good turnout of around 100 people and it was very well supported.

“Well done to everyone who took part in both events.”

The runners had a well deserved mince pie and mulled wine at the end.
