Wales announce friendly with Trinidad

-

WALES will face Trinidad & Tobago in a friendly fixture at Wrexham’s Racecourse Ground next March.

Given that Ryan Giggs’s side were drawn in a group of five in their Euro 2020 qualifying campaign, they were left with two spare matchdays in which they must play friendly matches due to UEFA rules.

And the FAW have announced that they will play at the Racecourse for the first time in more than a decade, with Giggs’s side set to host Trinidad & Tobago there on Wednesday, March 20, next year.

Giggs said: “We thoroughly enjoyed taking the team there for an open training session in May. The support was incredible and further fuelled our ambition to host a match at the historic ground.

“Trinidad & Tobago will prove an interesting test for us and will be great preparation ahead of the Euro 2020 qualifying campaign.”

Next year’s meeting will see former Swansea City and Wrexham defender Dennis Lawrence, the current manager of Trinidad & Tobago, return to the Racecourse following his five-year stint with the Dragons between 2001 and 2006.

The match comes four days before Wales kick off their Euro 2020 qualifying campaign against Slovakia at Cardiff City Stadium on Sunday, March 24.

Wales’s last fixture at the Racecourse Ground was a 3-0 friendly win over Norway in February 2008.

Ticket info will be announced in due course on faw.cymru.
