CHRISTMAS upon us.

Have you ever wondered how those elves manage to get all those cards and gifts to the right place in time?

Well to find out, I was up bright and early on Monday to visit the Royal Mail’s sorting office at Llansamlet.

In addition to mountains of Christmas cards, the Royal Mail delivers in is almost the region of 149 million parcels each Christmas. The visit was a great insight into the hard work of the staff.

Then it was off to the Vetch Veg community garden for carol singing around the Christmas tree with children from Christchurch and Sandfields primary schools.

One of my nominated Lord Mayor’s charities is Swansea Young Adult Carers – young people aged 16 to 25 who provide unpaid care to a relative, family member or friend who cannot cope without their help.

The group aims to give young people a break from their caring role, and it was wonderful to take them to the football on Saturday and then to the Mansion House for minced pies and hot chocolate on Tuesday.

Today I’m off to St Mary’s Church for homeless charity Crisis’s carol concert.

Tomorrow it’s back to St Mary’s for the annual city carol service.

The event is open to all, and anyone who would like to attend should arrive at St Mary’s Church at 7pm. The event includes post-service mince pies and mulled wine.
