Drug users and raiders ‘leave caravan wrecked’

A LLANELLI man has been left without the use of his caravan after it was damaged during a breakin before being used as a “drugs den”.

Phillip Stringer, aged 40, has a two-berth caravan which he previously used to go fishing from, but he’s been left unable to use it after it was initially broken into and damaged last summer.

More recently, over the new year period, he claims drug users have been using the caravan as a “drugs den” after Spice and drugs paraphernalia were found inside.

Mr Stringer said: “It was first broken into in August, and the second time there were people in there with the doors open. They’ve smashed the windows and the entire inside is wrecked. Only the tyres haven’t been touched.

“They’ve stolen my fishing jackets and radio from inside, and Spice, needles and foil have been found in the caravan.

“It was roadworthy, but I can’t use it now as it’s a write-off.

Broken glass from beer bottles covers the bed area, while cigarette butts litter the surfaces.

He added: “It’s only worth about £500 but I don’t think even a scrap man would take it now. It’s embarrassing.

“I don’t know what to do with it – I can’t even take it to the tip.”

A Dyfed-powys Police spokeswoman said: “In Phillip Stringer, from Llanelli, says his caravan was used as a drugs den. 2018 police received a complaint of burglary relating to a caravan and a complaint of vandalism relating to a vehicle at an address in Swansea Road, Llanelli.

“A number of inquiries were carried out at the time. However, no suspect was identified and the crimes were closed.

“Should any new information come to light, then the crimes will be reviewed.

“On January 1, 2019, a report was received that an attempted burglary had occurred at the caravan at the property, as the owner had found the caravan door open. On attendance, it was found that the caravan had been left unsecured since previous incidents and the damage caused previously not repaired.

“As no further damage had been caused and nothing had been taken, no further police action was required.

“The victim has been updated on the action taken in all three reports.”
