Don’t spend any public money on Banksy work

-

I HAVE been reading and hearing about the possible fate of the Port Talbot “Banksy” artwork.

Why should anyone advocate spending public money on an artwork that is really private property?

I would object to the Welsh Assembly Government and/or Neath Port Talbot Council spending money on this.

A lot of things are being said about protecting it.

I believe there has been a lot of exaggeration over risks to what, in fact, is graffiti, although I can’t believe the mentality of people who would deface it.

Look at a little place in Devon called Brixham, this little port has two Banksys, one of a man throwing fish, with the words “let them eat fish”, and a second on a wall on the other side of the harbour, which is a girl with a red balloon.

Both these pictures are enjoyed by everyone, and no-one seems to want to destroy them.

At the same time, how can the Welsh Government or Neath Port Talbot Council think about finding money for moving or protecting this work, while they cannot seem to find enough money to repair pavements or roads?

Everyone should get their priorities right.

Banksy’s work is worth hundreds of thousands of pounds, public money shoulds not be spent on it, it would be better spent on problems in Port Talbot, rather than anything to do with this mural.

Banksy has brought pollution in Port Talbot into the public domain through this work, so instead of spending time debating over graffiti would it not be better to solve pollution problems? JEFFERY PERKINS Dinas Baglan Road, Port Talbot
