CARS have been scratched and had their licence plates stolen – in an area where up to 60 vehicles had their tyres slashed.

Police say they have received three reports of number plates being taken in the Gendros and Manselton areas of Swansea over the past six weeks, while a number of cars were ‘keyed’ on Manselton Road.

The damage comes just over a week after dozens of vehicles had their tyres slashed in a single night – including one belonging to a care home for people with learning disabilities.

The tyre damage was done in the early hours of Sunday, May 12, when police said around 30 cars and vans were targeted in Weig Road, Gendros, along with others in Maesglas and Pentregethin roads.

Residents reported seeing a gang of youths on the night tyres were slashed, including one who allegedly had a knife.

Following the most recent incidents, one Manselton resident said: “Police should be patrolling the area. There are enough incidents around Manselton, with the school having its windows smashed and teenagers climbing scaffolding and cars getting stolen.”

Another said: “Manselton Road is quite quiet and I don’t see many problems but there are a small minority though who are almost feral, although I’m not sure if they are even from Manselton.”

South Wales Police say a 14-year-old girl was spoken to by officers following the damage to cars on Manselton Road.

He added: “We were called at 8.10pm on May 22 to reports of damage being made to three cars in Manselton Road. A 14-year-old girl had been apprehended by residents and the victims agreed the matter could be dealt with by restorative justice.

“We have only had three reports of vehicle plate theft within the last six weeks in the area, and it is not linked to the tyre incidents.”
