Woman taken to hospital after armed police called to street
A WOMAN has been taken to hospital needing “urgent medical attention” after an incident which saw armed police called to a residential street.
Police attended a property in Glannant Road, Carmarthen, on the outskirts of the town centre on Monday night.
This was after concerns were raised for the welfare of a woman living on the street, who, it is understood, was in possession of a knife.
Armed officers arrived at the scene shortly after 8.30pm.
Dyfed-powys Police said the armed unit attended as a precaution and was later stood down.
One eyewitness said neighbours were very concerned by the incident, and described a “crazy” scene as up to six police vehicles scrambled to the street, together with an ambulance.
A spokeswoman for Dyfed-powys Police said: “We were called to a property in Glannant Road, Carmarthen, at around 8.45pm on Monday, May 25, following concerns for the welfare of a woman.
“Officers attended and engaged with a woman, who was then transferred to the care of paramedics.”
The woman was taken to Glangwili Hospital in Carmarthen in an ambulance.
A spokesman for the Welsh Ambulance Service said: “We were called on Monday, May 25, at approximately 8.28pm to reports of a person needing urgent medical attention on Glannant Road, Carmarthen.
“We responded with one emergency ambulance and one patient was transported to Glangwili Hospital, Carmarthen.”
Her current condition is not known.
It is the second time a large police presence has been called to the same Carmarthen street in little over a month.
In April, police officers and firefighters were called to a property there.
It came after concerns were raised for the welfare of a woman, who was on the roof of a house.
