Funds appeal to help sculpture take flight
A MARGAM sculptor is turning to the public to help fund an ambitious art project.
Artist and model maker Rob Preston has lauched a crowdfunding project via the Gofundme website in an effort to make his latest sculpting project a reality.
It is named Hummingbird and all of the pieces and smaller accompanying pieces will be cast from bronze. However, he needs £5,420 to make the project viable.
Rob said: “I would like to be able to produce the collection, and I am looking for the funds to be able to do so.
“My main piece is a 5ft tall hummingbird sculpture which I have already constructed a maquette for the main structure and hope to raise enough funds to have it cast into bronze.”
The main piece will cost £1,500 to make.
Rob added: “There are eight other pieces, four of which would be around 27 inches tall, and four that would be approximately nine inches tall.
“If all the target sum could be met, then all eight pieces would be cast.
“If only partial funds are met, then only the smaller or medium-sized pieces would be cast, although it is the main, larger piece that is my main goal here.”
Despite working at his home, Rob also needs the use of a foundry in Pembrokeshire, MB Fine Arts in Clynderwen, and he has factored in travel costs of £500 within his crowdfunding target.
Rob also makes model locomotives constructed by the Neath Abbey Iron Company.
He has a website called Rob Preston Model Locomotives and one model, called Industry, is on display at the National Waterfront Museum in Swansea.
