MACLEOD SWEATS ON INJURY UPDATE
JOSH Macleod could find out today if his dream of a first Wales cap is in tatters.
The Scarlets flanker left the field in the first half of Sunday’s disappointing PRO14 loss to Glasgow after suffering a hamstring injury.
If it proves to be serious, the Pembrokeshire product could be forced to sit out Wales’s entire autumn campaign.
That would be devastating for the openside, who turns 24 later this month. He was named in his first Wales squad last week by Wayne Pivac on the back of some stellar performances for his region over the last 12 months.
Head coach Glenn Delaney told the Scarlets website: “Josh has a hamstring injury so we will have a look at that and see how he gets on.
“The medics are looking after him and it’s pretty early to make an assessment. We will know more in the next 24-48 hours.
“He has worked so hard to get in the Wales squad and I thought he was outstanding again today, making big plays and doing what he has been doing for us for the last 12 months.
“The form that he has shown to get into that position he was showing that tonight, so it was a shame for him.”
If Macleod is ruled out for any length of time, Pivac has a number of options available to him.
He could hand a recall to Scarlets colleague James Davies, who missed large parts of last season through injury, while Dragons star Taine Basham and Blues back-rower Shane Lewis-hughes are also likely to come into consideration.
Wales hooker Ken Owens was also forced from the field during the Scarlets’ 20-7 defeat in Scotstoun, being replaced by Ryan Elias after suffering a shoulder injury.
“Ken has a shoulder injury, he has some bruising,” added Delaney.
“It’s about managing it. It’s pretty early when you get those joint-related things. They tend to take a day or so to really know what the severity is.”
