Fair goes virtual in run-up to Christmas

-

ANOTHER Carmarthen event has been forced to change due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Following the cancellation of both the fireworks night next month and the Christmas lights switch on, the popular St Peter’s Church fair has seen its organisers think outside of the box.

The fair will not be going ahead in its usual way but instead of cancelling, organisers are taking the event online for the first time.

Craft-makers and traders will have their wares showcased on the Friends of St Peter’s Church Facebook page between now and December.

It means while the event cannot take place in person, it still gives shoppers and traders a chance to be in touch with one another as the festive season approaches.

Julie Rees, secretary of the Friends of St Peter’s Church, said: “Understandably, this year’s Christmas Fair at St Peter’s Church won’t be going ahead, but we’ve decided to change with the times and make the most out of this situation we all find ourselves in.

“Over the years, The Friends of St Peter’s Church have welcomed many amazing stalls and met some incredibly talented local people who all rely on events like ours to make a living.

“Christmas is usually their busiest time of the year, so it’s important more than ever to get behind our community of crafters.

“To support our champion independents, we will be weekly showcasing their unique gift ideas on our Facebook page under ‘Carmarthen Virtual Christmas Fair’ – so please join the event and support local.”

She added: “The event runs every Saturday from now until December and anyone can go into the event at any time to look at the virtual stalls.

“We’ve had a lot of interest, many are glad of the chance to sell their items and it’s a great way to shop safely and locally in the comfort of your home.”
