A PROMINENT Swansea marina building could be turned into a restaurant, with office space and apartments.

If given the go-ahead, plans put forward by Cambrian SIPP would see the red-brick building on the corner of Cambrian Place and East Burrows Road restored and extended to create the new residential and commercial development.

In recent years the site at 14 Cambrian Place has been left empty, with its last known use as a boat sales area with office space. The development would see a bar/restaurant and offices on the ground floor, with potential for 12 residential apartments on the floors above.

A design and access statement by planning agents Asbri Planning Ltd states that the site offers an “exciting and unmissable opportunity to bring an important and historic building back into use”.

It read: “The proposed floor plans highlight that the site is capable of providing two office suites, a restaurant with associated bar area, kitchen, storage and toilets, six apartments to the first floor and six apartments to the second floor.

“The layout has been carefully considered to ensure plentiful living and amenity space for residents alongside ensuring ample office and restaurant space to the ground floor.

“The site occupies a prominent position on the corner of Cambrian Place and East Burrows Road.

“The site therefore presents a clear opportunity to retain and complement the building’s appearance.

“It is considered that the development will serve to enhance the existing streetscape along Cambrian Place and East Burrows Road, respectively.

“The proposed development of 12 apartments, office space and restaurant will ensure a vibrant development at this prominent corner plot location in the heart of Swansea’s Maritime Quarexisting ter.”

The planning document also details that there would be no proposed vehicle access into the site and no car parking provided as the site is in an “inherently sustainable location by virtue of its proximity to public transport and cycling routes”.

Asbri Planning Ltd has outlined the plans as part of a pre-application consultation which ends on November 6.
