No word on Borini bid, reveals Cooper

STEVE Cooper says he has not been asked by Swansea City’s hierarchy about a potential transfer for free agent Fabio Borini.

The Italian is currently unattached having left Hellas Verona earlier this year and could join a club at any time.

Borini enjoyed a glorious spell with the Swans in the latter half of the 2010/11 season as he helped Brendan Rodgers’ men gain promotion into the Premier League.

It’s understood the Swans held talks with the former Swan in the final week of the transfer window over a potential return to the Liberty Stadium.

But Cooper says he’s not been told by those in the corridors of power at the Liberty Stadium that the club are actively pursuing a deal for the 29-year-old.

“I got asked about that last Saturday, after the Huddersfield game. I did hear that there had been links and that he’s a free agent, but there’s nothing come to me saying that we’re interested in signing him or asking what I think about it,” said the head coach.

“I certainly haven’t heard anything this week about any players who may be available on free transfers.”

Swansea fans packed out the away end in the reverse fixture last term, and Cooper admits that stalemate was one of the highlights of his debut campaign at the club.

“Personally, the last game we played there was one of the highlights of the season for me,” he said.

“I know we didn’t win there, and it wasn’t so much about the game, it was about the passion of the supporters.

“It was early on in the season, an we really felt it that day.

“We know it’s a big game and an important game for the club. I’ve constantly reminded the players about the times we are in and the struggles people may be going through.”
