City now has highest rate in Wales

-

WALES has reported two new coronavirus deaths in the latest figures released yesterday.

New data published by Public Health Wales (PHW) - a few hours later than normal due to a technical problem - reported a further 69 new positive coronavirus cases, bringing the total to 210,515 since the pandemic began.

The total number of lab-confirmed coronavirus deaths in Wales is now at 5,533.

The infection rate across Wales has fallen again and now stands at 17.4 cases per 100,000 people for the seven days leading up to April 8, a drop from 17.5 on Monday.

All of Wales’ local authorities are now reporting fewer than 35 cases per 100,000 people for the seven days up to

April 7.

Six of them reported zero new positive cases on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the percentage of tests coming back with positive results is now 2.3%, significantly below the key benchmark of 5%.

The latest figures also show that 1,602,939 people have received the first dose of a Covid-19 vaccine and 537,195 people have had both doses. It means Wales has become the first UK nation to give a first dose of a vaccine to more than half of its population.
