County’s infection rate is down again
THE Covid-19 infection rate in Carmarthenshire has fallen again and is now below 10 per 100,000 – just over 1% of what it was at its highest.
According to the latest statistics released by Public Health Wales on Friday afternoon, the current seven-day infection rate across the county is 9.5.
That’s based on the number of new infections confirmed per 100,000 population over the seven days up to April 11.
In that week there were 18 new cases confirmed from a total of 1,772 tests - a positive rate of just 1%. In terms of new cases in the latest 24-hour period (up to Thursday morning) there were just two confirmed in Carmarthenshire from 329 tests - a positive rate of 0.6%.
The seven-day infection rate remains lower than the average across Wales, which is currently 16.7. It is higher than in neighbouring Ceredigion (4.1), lower than in neighbouring Pembrokeshire (10.3), and it continues to fall when compared with rates seen in recent weeks and months.
Last week (for the seven days up to April 4) the infection rate in the county was 15.9, the same as it was the previous week (for the seven days up to March 29), while the week before that (for the seven days up to March 21) it was at 27.5.
Since December, it has fallen from 742 to today’s rate of 9.5 - a drop of almost 99%.
The areas of the county with the highest current infection rates are Hendy and Tycroes and Llandybie and Saron, while infection rates in most areas have not been calculated due to too few cases.
