University’s Activism Week offers top talks and events for everyone
THE University of Wales Trinity Saint David is this week marking its annual UWTSD Activism Week.
UWTSD Activism Week runs until Friday and will feature guest speakers such as Stefanos Levidis, of the Turner Prizenominated art collective Forensic Architecture, as the headline speaker.
The event, run by staff and students from the photography department at UWTSD, will this year highlight socially engaged practice, and feature other guest speakers also including Fox Irving (artist/producer, Women Working Class group), and Swansea-based artist Owen Griffiths.
The programme will include the launch of queer artist collective On Your Face, alumni talks, free yoga/meditation and art-therapy sessions along with community creative workshops.
Siân Addicott, head of Undergraduate Photography at UWTSD, said: “This year’s Activism Week aims to encourage collaborative practice between students, local creatives and community groups.
“The pandemic has been a time of greater isolation for many and has inevitably had an impact on mental health.
“Events during Activism Week will explore the benefits of community and creative collaboration, the relationship between visual art and social change, as well as offering opportunities to participate in art-therapy workshops and well-being yoga/meditation sessions.”
Artist/producer Fox Irving added: “I am really happy to return after a fantastic Activism Week in 2020. Building on relationships we made last year, I hope to support and build even more creative collaborations with the university through mentoring sessions and group discussions.”
Due to current restrictions, events will be taking place online. For updates follow @ffoto_swansea on Instagram.
