A GAULD RUSH!

SWANSEA City are one of several clubs said to be interested in midfielder Ryan Gauld of Portuguese side Farense.

The likes of Brighton and Hove Albion, Brentford, Sheffield United, Norwich City and Blackburn Rovers are also said to be taking an interest in the Scottish star, according to Team Talk.

David Beckham’s MLS side Inter Miami are also believed to be keen on a player who was once heralded as one of the most promising talents in world football, while former Swansea boss Carlos Carvalhal is also credited as an admirer, with his current side Braga linked with a move back in January.

Swansea’s transfer plans are, as things stand, not yet finalised, with most of the focus in SA1 understandably centring around the forthcoming play-off campaign.

Promotion to the Premier League could well have a big impact on what sort of players they go for this summer, although Gauld does tick a lot of boxes in terms of Swansea’s transfer policy.

Gauld is set to be a free agent this summer, which would suit a Swansea side unlikely to splash the cash, particularly if they are still playing in the Championship next season.

A playmaker or a No. 10 are also roles Swansea may look to fill in the upcoming window, and the 25-yearold is believed to be keen on testing himself in English football.

Gauld was once dubbed a “Mini Messi” as a teenager after breaking into the Dundee United first team at the age of 16 in 2012.

His rise earned a big move to Sporting Lisbon in 2014, but he failed to make his mark with the Portuguese giants, moving to second-tier side Farense five years later.

A stunning debut season, where he scored nine goals and earned three assists, helped Farense win promotion to the top tier.
