Clement comes good to earn narrow victory for Bonymaen

-

THE second round of league matches in the Absolute Bowls Swansea Bowling Association was due to resume last Thursday but all matches were postponed due to the weather.

The weather was better on the weekend, however, and three second division matches did take place.

Tawe were home against Bonymaen looking to get back to winning ways after losing to Jersey in a close encounter in their first match, and their opponents were looking for a quick return to division one after being relegated in 2019.

It was the visitors who recorded a narrow 63-58 victory, 10-2 on points.

The big turning points came on the 20th end; with the overall scores very close, Bonymaen skip Rhidian Clement, with one shot against him, took out a Tawe bowl to score six shots for his side to ensure victory.

Rink scores: John Warwick 17 Alan Slattery 20, Paul Richards 27 Paul Brooks 22, and Dennis Richards 14 Rhidian Clement 21.

Llansamlet were another team playing their first game of the season when they were at home to St Thomas at Primrose Park.

Against a depleted St Thomas team, Llansamlet recorded a big 71-29½ win, the home team securing all 12 points on offer.

The St Thomas three skipped by Dean Norman won their rink but lost when the percentage was taken off.

Rink scores: Ray Michael 12 Dean Norman 11¼, Paul Jenkins 38 Neil Cutler 7, and David Jenkins 21 Donny Payne 11¼.

There was a close result in the Mynyddbach v Clyne Valley game, with the home winning 68-56, 10-2 on points.

The rinks skipped by Peter Locke and Roy Fethney both scored seven shots in the last two ends to secure victory for Mynyddbach.

Rink scores: Steve Harwood 16 Gerry Grigg 19, Roy Fethney 24 Beryl Talbot 15, and Peter Locke 28 Roland Page 22.

CARRUTHERS SHIELD

Sketty Church were away to Skewen and recorded a good 85-64 victory.

Another successful Swansea team were Victoria Saints, who beat Swansea Vale 79-50 at Victoria Park.
