Bar failed to fully comply with regulations

-

A BAR in Uplands, Swansea, was issued with an improvement notice for failing to adhere fully to appropriate Covid regulations.

Council officers visiting Bar St James last week issued the improvement notice after concluding it had not taken all reasonable measures to minimise risk of exposure to coronavirus.

The issues included breaches of regulations which outline rules including the two-metre distance that must be maintained between visitors, and controlling the use of entrances, passageways, stairs and lifts.

The improvement notice gave the business two days to address the issues raised.

However, it was lifted the following day after improvements were made, and the business continues to trade.

The order is the second improvement notice to have been issued in Swansea since lockdown restrictions were eased at the start of the month.

City Barbers, on Dillwyn Street, in the city centre, received such an order earlier in May after officials discovered staff at the business were not wearing personal protective equipment, no visors were being worn while attending to customers, premises were not adequately ventilated, and high contact surfaces were not being cleaned regularly.

Local authorities have been given the power to issue improvement and closure notices to businesses and premises which do not meet Covidsecure obligations. In January, Asda’s store in Llansamlet was hit with an improvement notice after being found not to have put in measures to prevent access to or the purchase of non-essential items.

B&M, on Nantyffin Road, in Swansea’s Enterprise Park, was found not to be ‘carrying out all reasonable measures to prevent the transmission and spread of Covid,’ by selling non-essential items, and Go Outdoors, in Bran Close, was found to still be selling nonessential items, and not restricting access to aisles with non-essential items.

Three Tesco stores, in Fforestfach, Pontarddulais and Swansea city centre, also received improvement notices for similar reasons in January.
