Bennett is closing in on a return to Swans action

-

RYAN Bennett has returned to training ahead of Swansea’s clash with Cardiff City after the international break.

The defender missed the Championship clashes with Derby County, Fulham and Huddersfield Town along with the Carabao Cup defeat at Brighton due to injury.

However, the 31-year-old has been in full training with his team-mates ahead of the contest with the Bluebirds at Swansea. com Stadium on Sunday, October 17.

Ben Cabango and Brandon Cooper did not train at the Swans’ Fairwood base last week due to being called up for international duty, while Ryan Manning is being carefully monitored after withdrawing from the Republic of Ireland squad due to an ankle issue.

In the latest training footage posted by the club, there was no sign of striker Michael Obafemi or attacking midfielder Olivier Ntcham.

However, following the 0-0 draw with Derby County at Pride Park, Russell Martin said both players would be back for the clash with Mick Mccarthy’s troops.

Meanwhile, Joel Piroe says he is targeting stacks of goals for Swansea after making a fine start to life at the club following his switch from PSV Eindhoven.

The Dutchman moved to South Wales for a fee worth more than £1m in the summer and has already netted six goals for the club.

However, the 22-year-old believes the club’s improvement under the current regime means he should set his sights as high as possible when it comes to his record in front of goal.

“I am very happy with my contribution so far,” he told the club’s official website.

“I want to score a lot more goals for Swansea.

“I think my team-mates are getting to know my play more, and I am getting to know their play a lot more too.

“I really enjoy playing in this team.

“I can drop into the midfield, get on the ball and have a lot of touches and create overloads.

“I think you can see we are connecting well a lot of the time, and this is an enjoyable way to play football, and I don’t think it is so enjoyable for the opponent.”
