A first home win as Bont find their feet

PONTARDDULAIS Town, showing encouraging signs of improved recent form, were relieved to register their first home win of the season in the West Wales Premier League on Saturday by beating CK Swiss Valley 3-1 at Coedbach Park.

Bont led 3-0 at the break, being particularly dangerous from their long throw-in policy. Shaun Harris opened the scoring, whilst striker Cameron Davies added two more, his second brace of the season.

Swiss Valley did little to threaten Wyn Walters in the Bont goal before half-time, although they fought back well in a much more even second half, pulling a goal back from the penalty spot when Ben Grant netted with around 20 minutes remaining.

Pontarddulais Town: W Walters, D Abramo, Iwan Rees, N John, C Davies, J Beynon, J Harding, S Harris, S Robinson, Iestyn Rees, K Palmer. Subs: T Foster, L Benton, L Glover.

CK Swiss Valley: L Davey, T Morgans, S Tiplady, R Owens, D Thomas, R Buckley-turner, R Roberts-alatti, D Lemon, O Hopping, E Thomas, B Grant. Subs: S Richards, M Cutler, M Edwards.

Meanwhile, Penlan Club cemented their position as one of the clear favourites to win the inaugural title with an 11-1 demolition of Cwm Wanderers at Mynydd Newydd which kept their unbeaten league record intact.

Penlan have already amassed an outstanding 28 goals in their three home games to date, being far less comfortable though on their travels.

The home side were assisted by some sloppy Cwm defending in the first half and were two up inside five minutes before Oliver Ranford scored a penalty for Cwm, which turned out to be nothing more than a consolation.

Penlan’s scorers were Ryan Purcell with five, Jordan Doyle with a hattrick, Nathan Lewis, now with eight league goals this season, Steven Hughes and substitute Ashleigh Harries,

in a completely one-sided second half.

Seven Sisters Onllwyn moved back up to fourth with an impressive 4-1 win against previous leaders South Gower, who slipped to second.

Seven made a bright start, scoring through Nathan Jones on nine minutes, and they doubled the lead just before half-time when Jones set up Adam Campbell to slot past Sam Williams in the Gower goal.

South Gower halved the deficit early in the second half with a welltaken penalty from Bruno Morris but couldn’t find the elusive equaliser.

Seven extended their lead through Campbell and then Jones to complete a deserved 4-1 win.

Mumbles Rangers, still unbeaten, hosted a Dafen Welfare who belied their lowly position by taking a 2-1 half-time lead through Sam Evans, capitalising on a handling error by home keeper Callum Andrews.

Dafen extended their lead through Steve Coomey, who pounced on another defensive blunder, while Andrews made amends with several good second-half saves.

Mumbles responded just before half-time through Tom Jones and then made a bold triple substitution in the 55th minute which paid dividends when man of the match Will Meredith netted two late goals to secure a 3-2 home win for Rangers.

Evans & Williams now top the table after a 3-1 win at Morriston Town, who are yet to win at the Dingle this season, all their three league wins coming away from home.

A Mark Howells penalty, his eighth league goal, put the Albies 1-0 up, with Town captain Scott Deakin finishing from close range to make it 1-1 at the break.

With Town enjoying more of the possession but missing several good chances, it was the Albies who scored with 20 minutes remaining through the dangerous and persistent Bruno Forkuoh.

His effort was deflected through a crowd of players, and with Town pushing for an equaliser, the Albies sealed the win late on, their fourth in five league outings, with a counter attack when Tom Lavender finished.

This Saturday sees Evans & Williams take on Mumbles Rangers in the pick of the games.
