Ammanford hit form to avoid drop

-

AMMANFORD saved their best till last as they secured JD Cymru South survival on the final day of the season.

After a low-key season which eventually saw them scrapping for safety at the wrong end of the table, Ammanford finally discovered their best form to see off Llanelli Town 5-0 at the Recreation Ground.

Euros Griffiths gave them the lead in the 25th minute, with Tristan Jenkins doubling their advantage shortly after the break.

But it was in the final 10 minutes that Ammanford found their best form.

Former Swansea City star Lee Trundle made it 3-0 in the 82nd minute, with Jenkins grabbing his second moments later.

And Ryan Kostromin completed the scoring in injury time.

Llanelli ended the season in ninth place, while Ammanford finished 12th.

Risca United were relegated as a result of their 2-1 defeat at Afan Lido.

Second-half goals by Sean Hanbury and Cai Owens gave Lido the points.

Trefelin’s 4-0 home win over Port Talbot Town meant their visitors went through the 30-game league season without a win. They conceded 121 goals and only scored eight.

Mason Jones Thomas scored two for Trefelin, with Joe Clarke and Andrew Davies also on the scoresheet.

Llantwit Major added a final seal of approval to their titlewinning season as they ended on a high with a 5-0 win at Cwmbran Celtic.

Putting behind them the bitter disappointment of not being able to get promoted because of their failure to comply with the required Tier 1 and Uefa licence agreements, Llantwit relaxed and enjoyed their celebration game.

Finn Jennings Adam Jenkins and Lewis James scored in the first half and Josh Morgan fired home two more after the break. They ended five points clear at the top.

Pontypridd Town will go up to the JD Cymru Premier League next season after finishing as runners-up and winning their appeal on their application for the necessary licences.

They ended their season with a 2-0 win at Carmarthen Town. Both were scored by Sam Johnson in the first half.

Briton Ferry Llansawel, who finished third in the table, ended their season by battling back from a goal down to win 3-1 at Swansea University.

George Sellick gave the students the lead, but two goals by Luke Bowen and one from Alex Gammond gave Ferry the points.
