No panic for Hyatt after Wizards’ spell is broken by rivals

-

YOU won’t find Aberavon head coach Jason Hyatt panicking despite seeing his side lose their last two games in a row in the Indigo Premiership.

Have started with six successive bonus-point wins, the Wizards couldn’t have conjured up a better start. Now they have to get the show back on the road at Parc Eirias after a long trek north to Colwyn Bay to face RGC 1404 this afternoon.

Having seen reigning champions Cardiff overtake them at the top following their 45-0 romp against Swansea to and move six points clear, Hyatt knows the margin for error is getting smaller with every week.

But he knows the Premiership like the back of his hand these days and refuses to let any panic set in on the back of defeats to Newport and Ebbw Vale.

“That’s the Premiership for you! We could have won against both Newport and Ebbw Vale and we are still scoring lots of tries,” said Hyatt.

“We have a substantial squad, but injuries aren’t helping us. We’ve lost Dan Baker, Ashton Evans and Rhodri Hughes in recent matches, while Sam Williams and Callum Carson are also on the list.

“Obviously, we wanted to win every game, but we certainly aren’t disappointed at where we are. There are reasons behind why we lost, and we believe we can put things right.

“We have got a really tough game at RGC this weekend and then a tough month coming up. We play Pontypridd in the Premiership Cup and then meet Cardiff, Llandovery and Bridgend.

“This is a great competition, and it isn’t a flat climb to the title, it is a roller coaster ride. With the winners being determined via the play-offs , the first target is a top four finish.”

A hat-trick of tries from electric wing Dewi Cross helped Cardiff solidify their position at the top of the Premiership table with a 45-0 thrashing of Swansea at the Arms Park. In total they crossed for seven tries courtesy of Cross (three), Efan Daniel (twice), Tom Habberfield, and Jacob Lewis. Thursday was also a good night for Ebbw Vale who recorded a comprehensive 38-7 bonus point win over Carmarthen Quins at Eugene Cross Park. Dylan Bartlett, Morgan Richards (three), Chad Thomas, and Ryan Davies scored the tries for the Steelmen.
