A fitting tribute to talented musician

-

HANDEL’S Messiah will be a fitting tribute to celebrate the life of Tabernacle Morriston Choir accompanist Glenn Crooks.

One hundred years since its first performance at Tabernacle Chapel on Woodfield Street, at 7pm on Saturday, December 3, Côr Tabernacle Morriston Choir & Friends will honour Glenn’s memory by performing Messiah.

The choir have described Mr Crooks as “an extraordinarily talented musician, composer and teacher”, saying he had an exceptional gift and will be greatly missed.

Mr Crooks studied piano and organ, played cello and double bass in the West Glamorgan Youth choir and orchestra and won an organ scholarship to Oriel College, Oxford.

Following an MA in performing arts at University College, Cardiff, he composed music for a season of the Chester Mystery Plays and for a production of an original work based on the life of Dylan Thomas, to name but a few.

He was accompanist for several choirs in Swansea, Neath, Bridgend and Porthcawl and was involved in numerous tours at home and abroad.

Luke Spencer, the choir’s musical director, said: “An invitation to sing Messiah with us in memory of Glenn Crooks has been extended to all choristers

and choirs. This will be a wonderful evening guaranteed to raise the roof. Featuring Claire Watkins, soprano, Vaughan Richardson, counter tenor, Gareth Morris, tenor, David Stout, bass, and Philip Aspden, organ, we can’t wait to share this poignant celebration with our friends and supporters so come and join us.”

Tickets are £15 upstairs, £12 downstairs (under-18s free) and are available from Barbara Jones (01792 234271), or from choir members, or at the door.
