-

GORSEINON’S batters were on song as they eased to a 202-run win over Baglan on the first weekend of the South Wales Cricket Association.

Kieran Bull led the way with an excellent 76 that included five sixes and four boundaries as the division one side reached an imposing total of 296 all out.

Skipper Kieran Howells added 74, with Tom Pitts scoring a run-a-ball 51 and Greg Fisher chipping in with 45.

Cameron Protheroe was Baglan’s most successful bowler with 3-36.

In reply, the home side were skittled out for just 94 in the 30th over.

Christopher Mee led the way with figures of 4-26, while John Mann took 3-6.

Carmarthen Wanderers made their return to the Association a winning one.

They defeated Briton Ferry Town by 52 runs in their opening fixture.

The Wanderers were relegated from the South Wales Premier League at the end of last season. But they offered an early indication here that they could be one of the contenders for silverware this term.

Skipper Gareth Thomas was the star of the show as the Wanderers made home advantage count. His knock of 81 featured five sixes and three fours and helped steer the hosts to a total of 166-9.

Mumtaz Hussain took 4-18. Yakoob Ali (37) and Rajat Rathod (32) gave Ferry hope, but they were reduced to 114 all out as Ian Hughes claimed 4-16.

Tata Steel saw off visiting Llandysul by 12 runs in a low-scoring clash.

The Port Talbot side were restricted to 142 all out after being put in to bat. Matthew Jones scored 44.

Rhidian Harries returned the superb figures of 3-4 from seven overs for Llandysul, with Rhys Jones taking 3-38.

Harries’s fine all-round game continued as he scored an unbeaten 75 in Llandysul’s run chase. But he found little support as the visitors fell short on 130-6.

Matthew Jones took 3-25.

The game between Bronwydd and Llanelli was called off.

Aberdare beat Maesteg by five wickets.

The most impressive display in division two came from Llangennech, who won by 10 wickets at Porthcawl.

Steffan Evans claimed 5-15 as the Llanelli side were all out for 143, their total helped by a fine 35 from lowerorder batter Isaac Thorne.

Arun Maurya kept Felinfoel in the hunt with figures of 4-26 as Steel embarked on their reply, but Geraint

Bowden scored a defiant 64 as the Neath outfit reached their target.

Gowerton enjoyed a winning start as they beat Swansea Civil Service by four wickets.

The Service slipped from 51-0 to 131-9 as Tom Clarke (4-20) and Matthew Mason (4-36) took command.

Gowerton endured their wobbles in the run chase but made it safely home in the 35th over thanks to an unbeaten 31 from Josh Simmons.
