Four-star Albies clinch second spot – but now wait on promotion decision

EVANS & Williams have secured second place in the Macron West Wales Premier League programme – and promotion to the Ardal South West League.

They did so courtesy of a comfortable 4-0 victory against mid-table Giants Grave at Coleg Sir Gar in their final fixture. Promotion is subject to them obtaining their FAW Tier 3 licence.

It rounded off a fine season for the Llanelli side who scored 90 goals and suffered just two defeats.

The Albies started brightly but Grave defended resolutely until Nick Glendon smashed home a 15th-minute opener following a corner. The home side extended their lead on the stroke of half-time when a slick passing move ended with player-manager Rich Lewis squaring the ball to Sion Williams to tap into an empty net.

The second half followed a similar pattern to the first, but it took until the 70th minute for the third goal to arrive with Steff Vincent following up after Mathew Williams’s dipping drive was pushed into his path.

There was still time for two Albies substitutes to combine, with Will Gregory-diana opening up the Grave defence for Ben Bowleredwards to prod past Kelson Mckenzie for the final goal of the afternoon.

League champions Rockspur Fords finished their fine season with a 2-1 win at Cwmamman United. Ryan Hurlow put Rockspur ahead just before half-time with Jackson Brereton, who had a fine game in midfield for Cwm, equalising with 10 minutes left.

Colin Harris netted the Rockspur winner in the 86th minute.

Penlan are in red-hot scoring form, netting 15 times in their last three league games. They had a difficult opening period at Bryn Rovers, who missed a couple of chances to go in front. But after that Penlan dominated and eventually won 5-0 with goals from the league’s top scorer Darren Rowe (3) and Luke Dalling (2).

AFC Glais needed to win at CK Swiss Valley to maintain their hope of avoiding relegation, but they lost 1-0. Glais finished bottom despite a significant mid-season improvement in form. Sixteenyear-old Ellis Burrows netted the winner for CKSV on 70 minutes.

The Macron West Wales Premier League Cup final takes place on Friday at Briton Ferry’s Old Road Ground as Penlan face Rockspur Fords (7.30pm). Entry is £5 for adults and £2 for under-16s.
