THE vice-principal of Southport’s troubled KGV sixth form college has left the college.

Ian Swift, is understood to have vacated his post at the end of January, and it is believe that since then his photo has also been removed from the main notice board within the college.

KGV is under review and intense scrutiny by Ofsted following the “inadequate” rating given to the college following an inspection in September – the lowest possible grading of 4.

In reaction to Mr Swift’s departure, a spokesperson for the college said: “KGV is acting on Ofsted’s recommendations to improve the college, and return it to its rightful place as the best college in the area.

“In order to deliver this, the college’s senior management team has implemented its normal performance management procedures, to maintain and improve teaching standards.

“These actions have been taken in the interest of present and future stu- dents, to help us move forward and put this disappointing report behind us. KGV cannot comment on individual cases.”

In January, the revealed how the college, headed by Adele Wills, had failed a second inspection – finding it was still failing in a number of areas.

The departure of Mr Swift ollows the departure of a number of teachers – with four staff rumoured to have been asked to leave last year after the first damning Ofsted report.

In January, the chair of governors, John Rostron, departed and was replaced by Julian McInerney.

In response to the reports and calls for improvements, petitions have since been launched by students and campaign groups formed by parents over their concerns of falling standards.

A public meeting organised by Parents For Change, is to be held at the Salvation Army Centre on Shakespeare Street on Wednesday, February 11 at 7pm.

The group says everyone is welcome and invitations have been sent to the college governors and senior management.
