Handicap system works a treat as Wings land win

THIS week’s results were a triumph for the handicappi­ng system with two matches ending in draws, three in one point victories and the other two close also. Christine Vasey managed two points on the very last question for Vikings, conceding two, to draw 27-27 with Ainsdale Sands, with Jack Gardner 11 leading for Sands and Bob Ellis 10 for the home side.

Wings required two off the last question to beat ExPats but just managed 1 to secure the other draw.

Conceding 23, Wings knocked off the deficit in five rounds but the visitors rallied to draw the last three rounds for a 52-52 all score.

Dag Griffiths 19, Tom Farley 16 and Bob Parry 10 all scored well for Wings. Conceding 12, Casablanca scraped home 36-35 at Exams with the home side unable to get a point from the question that decided the above matches.

Bill Thomas 12, Arthur Jones 11 and Dave Dutton 10 all scored well for the visitors and Steve James 10 for Exams.

Led by good scoring from Alan Wright 16 and Dave Nickeas 10 and conceding 8, E Street Band just held off St Jeromes 41-40 with Mike Beckingham 12 and John Hoyle 10 leading for the Formby side.

Quads made good use of their 7 start at Formby Sports, just pipping their opponents 34-33.

Steve McGinty 10 led for Quads and Sheila Tickle 13 for the home side.

Also having a 7 point start, MPs scored well to beat Fishermen’s Rest 42-36 led by a fine 20 from Ann Evans and 11 from Chris Hodgen on his debut with John Ashcroft 12 and Dave Tarr 10 leading for the visitors.

With a four point start, a fine team effort from John Hill 12 and Geoff Wilde and Mick Hopkins, both 10, led Southport FC to a 43-38 victory over Devonshire Club with Ian Jackson and John Richards, both 14. leading for the visitors.
