Piano and violin make perfect harmony for Valentine’s Day
DI STI NGUI S H E D pianist Martin Roscoe makes a very welcome return to Douglas Music, Parbold, with Dutch violinist Liza Ferschtman to perform the perfect blend of romance and drama on Valentine’s day in Parbold Village Hall.
With an extraordinary career spanning over four decades, Martin Roscoe is arguably one of the UK’s best loved pianists.
Renowned for his versatility at the keyboard, Martin is equally at home in concerto, recital and chamber performances. His enduring popularity and the respect in which he is universally held are built on a deeply thoughtful musicianship allied to his rapport with audiences and fellow musicians alike.
Violinist Liza Ferschtman is known for her pas- sionate performances, interesting programmes and communicative qualities on stage.
She is equally at home on the concert stage with concertos, chamber music, recitals and solo works. In 2006 she received the highest accolade awarded to a musician in the Netherlands.
The central part of the recital displays their virtuosity, with flashes of genius in Prokofiev’s First Sonata and Lutoslawski’s short piece Subito. The evening is framed by two of Beethoven’s violin sonatas, including the well-known Kreutzer Sonata.
These classics of the violin repertoire offer a wonderful opportunity to hear the passion, intensity and beautiful tone that Liza Ferschtman is celebrated for, and to experience first-hand her viva- cious musical personality.
In recent years Liza has performed with all significant Dutch orchestras, including the Royal Concertgebouw and the Rotterdam Philharmonic.
She has been soloist of the Orchestre National de Belgique, European Union Youth Orchestra, Yomiuri Nippon Orchestra, Malaysian Philharmonic, Schleswig-Holstein Festival Orchestra, Bremen Philharmonic, Radio Symphony Orchestra of Prague, Malmö Symphony and Bergen Philharmonic.
Liza Ferschtman and Martin Roscoe appear at Parbold Village Hall on February 14 at 7.45pm. Tickets are £15 for adults and £5 for young people and students.
