Audition for a comic chiller

-

THE Waterloo and Crosby Theatre Company is getting ready to spook audiences with its upcoming production of The Addams Family.

Born in New Jersey, cartoonist Charles Addams created the family as a satirical inversion of the American ideal. Of course, many of us are familiar with its members who include Morticia, Wednesday and the Thing. They have become extremely popular as the family who are undoubtedly frightening and bizarre but fail to care about what others think of them. The Addams Family have featured in everything from books and film to TV.

Chairman and founder of the company, Pamela Foy, told me that while rehearsals have started for the show, open auditions will be held for those wanting to join in as principals, dancers or as part of the chorus. Those interested can head down to the Crosby United Reformed Church on Sunday (February 8).

And before we get worried, Pamela, who is also the show’s director, told me that all of the much-loved characters will be in the production.

She said: “The show features characters of the original Charles Addams creation with some fantastic music and we’ll have a live band under the baton of music director Wayne Oakes.”

The company currently produces a wide range of shows from musicals to summer concerts and pantomimes every year. It also takes part in community projects such as the WWI commemorative Poppy on the Beach event and has a youth group.

Pamela said: “The company is always on the lookout for new members to perform and help behind the scenes. We make our own scenery, props and costumes which are available to hire.

“Like every society, we would particularly encourage men to join us and currently we need more tenors and basses.”

The Addams Family will run from June 24-27 at the Starry Nights Theatre in Litherland.
