OVER 25 individuals and groups from Sefton and West Lancashire were recognised at our Your Heroes event.

Incredible real-life tales of heroism and dedication from across the area were relived at the annual awards.

The ceremony took place at the Ramada Plaza in Southport and was hosted by Sky presenter Neil Newton.

Award winners and their families and friends enjoyed a three-course meal during the awards, sponsored by the Scottish Power Foundation.

Hundreds of readers nominated the winners in the six categories which ranged from Young Hero, School of the Year, Team of the Year, Volunteer and Hero of Heroes.

This year’s Hero of Heroes went to Skelmersdale’s Lyndsay Heaton and family in recognition of their incredible strength after they lost their daughter Millie last year.

Millie Heaton touched the hearts of all those in West Lancashire and Sefton and the whole community mourned her death in July last year.

Lyndsay said: “I’m overwhelmed to win this award. I just did what any other mum would do but it’s lovely that people recognised the hard work we put in whilst going through every parent’s worst nightmare.

“We fundraised tirelessly for Millie and raised much needed awareness for neuroblastoma, but I’d like to thank everyone that put mine and my family’s name forward and also the Advertiser for the support they have given us over the past two years.”

Ann Loughrey, Trustee and Executive Officer of the ScottishPower Foundation, said: “During the evening we heard some humbling and incredible stories from worthy recipients, who were recognised for their tireless work of helping others, heroic acts, and their community spirit. ScottishPower Foundation are pleased again to be the sponsor of this incredible event” .

Group editor Andrew Brown said: “I would like to thank everyone who came to our 2015 Your Heroes Awards night, and everyone who nominated all of the amazing people who collected trophies.

“Your Heroes is what our newspapers are all about – celebrating the very best in our community.

“We heard some wonderful stories on the night, stories of courage and bravery, stories of people who have dedicated themselves to helping others and improving communities.

“I would also like to thank our partners in this event the Scottish Power Foundation, for once again providing such great support; to all the staff at the Ramada Plaza Hotel, which is a fabulous venue; to our great host for the evening, Sky TV’s Neil Newton; MSP which provided our technical support; and Graham Moreton of Tarleton Phorography who took all the photographs on the night. I am now looking forward to Your Heroes 2016.” If you know someone who deserves to be nominated for an award, please email jayne.middlebrook@trinitymirror.com”
