Hillside bar makes dogs welcome

-

A DOG friendly microbrewery bar has opened in Hillside village.

Situated on the corner of Hillside Road and Waterloo Road, The Pines is hoping to spark life into the area, and boasts a wide selection of drinks as well as tapas and light bites.

It is offering real ales and continental lagers, as well a wide selection of champagnes, wines, whiskey, vodkas, gins and prosecco on tap.

Food is served through the day, with breakfasts, sandwiches and homemade tapas on the menu.

The bar is being run by co-owners David Black, Stephen Walsh and Richard Cook, who are embarking on their first venture together.

David said: “Hillside has been desperately crying out for a bit of life. From the train station it’s probably about a mile walk to find somewhere to go, so we figured we should open something ourselves. It’s a dogfriendly place. We do organic dog treats that we give out free of charge.

“There are very few places where you can bring a dog and enjoy a hot drink, or some food or an alcoholic drink, but we want to cater to everyone.

“It’s been reasonably busy so far, it’s been nice weather for it and it’s a good location so we’re happy with how it’s going.

“A lot of new businesses are opening lately so we figured we’d give it a go!”

The Pines’ opening hours are 12pm-10.30pm on weekdays, 9am10.30pm on Saturdays and 9am-10pm and Sundays. There are also plans to open earlier on weekdays during the summer.
