SOUTHPORT’S Tap and Bottles bar is set to host a day of live music.

Owner Julian Burgess told the Visiter that a dozen buskers would perform all day long on Saturday, August 27.

Julian said the bar will put a tenner in each busker’s hat at the start of each session, and the total amount raised on the day has been promised to Southport Food Bank.

He said: “So 12 buskers will do 25-minute sessions, with five minute breaks in between. I imagine the event will start around 12.30 and go on until around 7.30pm. “

“The buskers will perform in the doorway of the bar.”

Julian recently unveiled plans to open a new room on the ground floor of the bar, where he hopes to host music events.

He added: “Once the new room opens we hope to host more similar live music events every few months inside the bar.”

Asked what he thought the best music to drink beer to was, Julian said: “For me it has to be Led Zeppelin.”

Julian said that the bar was doing well, but he was mindful of the need to pull people into Cambridge Arcade following the recent closure of the BHS store on Chapel Street.

He added: “We want to keep the crowds coming through the arcade. The craft keg beers are very popular and we have some very tasty bar snacks on the go, from pork pies to nuts.

“I know some new bars have opened up in the area, but for us it’s all about the beer.”

He explained that he was not expecting bumper crowds from Southport Flower Show.

He said: “We tend to only benefit from the town centre events such as the Christmas lights.”

Julian hopes to start serving more food in the future, with gourmet hot dogs being a possibility.

The Buskers Festival will take place at the Tap and Bottles in Cambridge Walks on Saturday, August 27.
