Plenty of things to do for children and families

-

THIS year’s Southport Flower Show will have plenty of things for families and children to enjoy.

Look out for a very special appearance from Mr Bloom, an amazing Minecraft experience plus an interactive zone.

So if you’re taking the youngsters, there’s lot to keep them entertained and children under 16 go free. Here’s five things the kids will love at Southport Flower Show:

1: Meet Mr Bloom

Head to the Flower Show on Saturday, August 20 for Super Kids Saturday and see the fabulous Mr Bloom’s stage show at 12.15pm and 3.15pm at the bandstand.

The children’s TV star, played by Ben Faulks, is bringing his themed make and take workshops including Mr Bloom’s trilby hat decorating that will be taking place throughout the day, on the hour every hour from 11am until 4pm.

These will take place in stand number B57 opposite the piazza area. Places are limited and will be allocated on a firstcome, first-served basis.

2: Have a Minecraft experience

Kids get the chance to meet leading YouTubers and to compete to build the best Minecraft garden.

Minecrafters Wizard Keen, MiniMuka and Tomohawk will be at the show offering tips on the game and judging the competition to build the best Minecraft garden.

Southport Flower Show 2016 is hosting a food and drink festival.

3: Watch shows in the arena

Don’t miss some amazing shows in the arena. This year’s spectacular line-up includes the Stunt Monkey Motorcycle Riders, Jonathan Marshall Horses & Falcons, the H & M Dog Display Team plus clown act Sonny & Rainbow.

4: Dance to the music at the bandstand

The Bandstand will provide continuous music throughout the day.

Acts include Bob Ludlam and the Kings of Rhythm, Bus Pass Buskers, and the Morecambe band.

5: Learn new skills

Families can visit Norton Priory Museum and Gardens in their Traditional Skills marquee, for a hands-on introduction to crafts from the past.

Have a go at making a decorative clay tile to take home. Climb on to the shave horse and have a go at whittling – make a gypsy flower or a plant pot marker to take away.

Make your own dried herb bags and learn about pollinators or find out about traditional skills and bushcraft courses for children and adults – all these activities are free!
