LFC mementoes to be auctioned for charity
LIMITED edition football memorabilia will go up for auction at a charity night in aid of an incurable terminal illness.
Huntington’s Disease sufferer Kirsty Skinsley is holding a Rock Out for HD night to raise money for a charity which allows families at risk or diagnosed with the illness to have children who don’t carry the hereditary disease.
Andy Squires read the article about the charity night and felt he could massively relate to Kirsty’s situation after his own mother who was a HD sufferer, went to the Dignitas clinic in Switzerland for an assisted death in 2012.
To help Kirsty in her mission to stand-up to the vicious illness Andy, who’s a big LFC supporter, has offered to auction some of his limited football collectable items which he has been collecting for more than 20 years.
The illness, which Kirsty was diagnosed with when she was 21, affects the brain and central nervous system - gradually sapping away muscle control and cognitive capacity.
Andy said: “When I read the article it brought it all flooding back to me and it was a no-brainer to help out. Me and Kirsty are like chalk and cheese but our stories are so similar.”
Andy’s mum decided she didn’t want to suffer with the disease any longer and for her a timed death was the one thing she could take control of.
Andy said: “It’s a horrible illness because it’s not the illness itself but the conditions brought on by it which eventually rob a person of their facilities.
Andy’s grandad and auntie also suffered with the disease. He said: “It’s a very poignant thing and our family is still affected by it today.
“It’s for a wonderful charity and it’s going to be a wonderful occasion and the more that show their support the merrier.”
Items on offer at the auction will include a 2008-2009 LFC Premier League Home deluxe shirt direct from Liverpool Football Club; an official Sky Sports ball signed by the Soccer Saturday panel; one of the third spare shirts issued to player, Philippe Coutinho, in the Europa League Final; a limited edition collector’s ball with only 2,000 of them produced worldwide from when England beat Germany 5-1; a St George’s Park limited edition print, with only 500 of them produced world wide to celebrate England legends which comes with original documentation from the Football League Managers’ Association and a rare 1983-1884 season LFC Treble Winners ball in a deluxe glass case, signed when Liverpool won the league cup.
Practical Car and Van Hire in Southport and Cobra Frames have also made donations.
Tickets cost £5 including a buffet and entertainment on the night. The event will take place this Saturday (November 26) at the Southport Masonic Hall from 4pm.
