Plans for Egyptian restaurant

ANEW Egyptian-themed bar and restaurant is set to open in Southport town centre. Plans have been submitted to Sefton council to convert two vacant units to create the new bar, which will also feature outdoor seating.

Although it is not yet known who is behind the venture, the application states that it will be a new business, rather than a chain.

If the plans are approved, the former Tea Rose cafe and Geek Pit shop will be transformed into the town’s latest independent venue, which will open from breakfast until midnight (or 10pm on Sundays).

The application states: “The restaurant and bar would look to provide an Egyptian-styled eating and drinking atmosphere that would use locally sourced fresh produce for their food, and provide a stunning, informal and stylish environment, which allows customers to enter into a relaxed and friendly setting.

“This business manifesto is something that the applicants would like to bring to Southport as they feel it would fit in well within the high street and offer an alternative dining experience.

“The applicants have done their research into where would be best to start their business, and felt that Southport would be well suited, as it is a diverse and thriving town centre, and Lord Street in particular is beginning to develop its bar and restaurant scene.

“The ethos of the restaurant would be relaxation and enjoyment, which would provide the local community a place to visit for all occasions.”

According to the proposals, the units were left in a poor state following the departure of the previous tenants.

“Following the termination of the previous businesses the building has been left vacant and is in need of repair. The requirement to invest in the fabric of the building is now key, and a major refurbishment would vastly improve the building.”

Sefton Council’s planning committee will now decide on the plans. If the proposal is approved, the bar would become the latest to open in the booming ‘Northern Quarter’ of Southport town centre, which now boasts the likes of Peaky Blinders, the Inn Beer Shop, Punch Tarmeys, Bar 45, Sacre Bleu and Corridor.
