ASOUTHPORT yob went on a “rampage” of vandalism and theft, stealing six boxes of cookies and smashing alcohol from shop shelves.

The 16-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty to several charges of theft, anti-social behaviour and criminal damage in a hearing at Sefton Youth Court.

He admitted stealing several cartons of eggs which he later used to terrorise businesses and residents in Southport.

Presiding magistrate Mrs Glenys Chiselle told the teenager: “It was like a rampage – you just decided to go completely ridiculous.”

The youngster cycled past a Southport store, pelting it with eggs and smashing a bottle of vodka from the shelves inside.

Prosecutor Angela Conlan said that he had previously admitted he “threw them in and did not care where it landed”.

His spree continued to Hampton Road, where he threw eggs and shouted abuse at residents, causing distress.

Mrs Conlan also said that the young thug shouted abuse as he intimidated residents.

During his rampage, on January 25, he also stole six boxes of Fox’s cookies to the value of £6 from Tesco Express in Eastbank Street.

Mrs Chiselle asked the boy: “What on earth did you think you were doing?

“You’re now 16, you were 15 at the time. To do this sort of thing is something that a child does.”

She added: “Are you ashamed? You have got the thefts, the abusive behaviour, criminal damage and you were 15 at the time. “This is really, really bad.” The youth also pleaded guilty to an assault which took place on February 28.

The teen had an existing referral order extended from six months to 12 months and he was ordered to pay compensation totalling £44 goods stolen.

The Visiter reported that the boy was arrested on March 3 for on suspicion of criminal damage, witness intimidation and assault in connection with the incidents in February.
