Rick riding 100 miles for MS charity
APROLIFIC Southport fundraiser who has raised over £87,000 for the Multiple Sclerosis Trust by completing challenges all around the world has revealed his next mission.
Rick Halsall is now in training for a 100-mile bike ride in just one day to help those living with multiple sclerosis.
Rick has trekked and cycled over four continents and has raised over £87,000 in the nine years he has supported the charity.
Now he is set to complete his fourth Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 in July this year.
He said: “Carol, my wife, was diagnosed with MS 12 years ago in 2005, at 44 years old.
“We were given a leaflet for the MS Trust and found the information available and the staff very informative and supportive.
“I started fundraising for the MS Trust in October 2008 and I did my first challenge in the Sahara in February 2009, quickly followed by a China Trek in October 2009.
“Since then I have trekked or cycled, at times with friends, over four continents.
“Inspire seems to be a commonly used word these days, but over the last few years I have had some tremendous experiences and have met some very inspiring people.
“I have made a lot of friends who I have trekked or cycled with along the journey.
“Some day I will sit down and work out the mileage covered around the world but before then I have a few more challenges planned and funds to raise.”
Rick’s next challenge takes place this summer – and he is urging people to support him in his mission.
He said: “I will be taking on my fourth 100-mile London bike ride on July 30.
“Last year the atmosphere was so good I had to do it again, the support along the route and finishing on the Mall just makes it a must-do event.
“This year I am doing it with three friends all riding for the MS Trust.”
