To bee – or not to bee? Joanne in mascot challenge
AWOMAN from Southport will get a tattoo of her work mascot if she can raise enough money.
Joanne Caddy, 38, from Ainsdale, has already booked herself into Dabs Tattoo shop, in Eastbourne Road.
If she raises £500 by December, she will get a tattoo of Queenie the Bee, Queenscourt Hospice’s mascot. Any money raised will go directly to the hospice.
Queenscourt Hospice, in Town Lane, is a local charity that provides support for seriously ill people from West Lancs, Southport and Formby.
Less than a quarter of its funds come from the NHS, with the rest coming from charitable donations.
It launched its Go Purple & Green campaign on Friday, which aims to promote the work of the charity and show organisations how they can make a donation in a fun, simple way.
It suggests that businesses and schools could ask for a small donation on behalf of the charity and people would wear the charity’s colours for the day.
Joanne, a human resources manager at Queenscourt Hospice, said: “Our funding has been cut this year to just a fifth of what is required to care for our patients and their families.
“Unless you’ve had direct experience with Queenscourt, you might not have heard of us. Go Purple and Green is also about raising awareness of who we are and what we do.”
Queenie the Bee has been Queenscourt’s mascot for the past two years and goes to all the hospice’s events. It will feature on the latest pin badge, available from this week.
Joanne added: “I’m so proud to be a part of the team at Queenscourt Hospice. It’s a remarkable place in our community that makes such a difference to so many families.”
She has booked to get herh Queenie tattoo doned on December 18. You can make a donation to the appeal on her fundraising page http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/ JoCaddy1
