Boy arrested briefly after town fracas
A TEENAGED boy was arrested after reports of anti-social behaviour in Southport town centre.
The 15-year-old was arrested after trouble broke out outside the KFC restaurant in Eastbank Street.
However, after police spoke with the boy’s parents he was later “de-arrested” and taken home.
The area has frequently been a hotspot for antisocial behaviour, leading to dispersal zones being set up in the town centre.
In March 2017, the franchisee of the KFC branch was forced to reduce its opening hours as a result of anti-social behaviour.
The boy was classed as being “de-arrested” rather than released as he had not been taken to a police station to be processed.
Police have now warned other parents to be sure that they know where their children are and that they are not involved in criminal behaviour.
A spokesman for Merseyside police said: “Following further reports of anti-social behaviour in the area of KFC Eastbank Street, a 15-year-old youth has been arrested.
“With the cooperation of the male’s parents he was returned home and later de-arrested.”
The spokesman added: “Any information you can provide, which may help us identify those involved would be appreciated. You can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
‘‘Alternatively you can dial 101 and ask to speak to a member of the Southport community police team.”
