SPECIAL RECOGNITION ANTHONY WHITE & PHILLIP BALL, EMMA DAY

-

Anthony White & Phillip Ball ANTHONY WHITE from Southport and Phillip Ball showed their bravery when they used chairs to fight off a man who tried to attack them with a machete in a Stockport pub.

The incident took place in February last year after a man had repeatedly been refused entry to the James Watts pub, and became aggravated with bar staff and door staff.

Later that night he returned, wearing a balaclava, black gloves and carrying a two foot machete, raised above his head.

The doormen grabbed chairs to protect them- selves as he tried to hit them.

They managed to work together to push him out of the front door.

He was then chased by Phillip, who managed to knock him down and detain him until the police arrived. Their teamwork and bravery prevented anyone from getting hurt.

Emma Day EMMA DAY saved a baby’s life on the first day of her new job.

Last year, a mother had taken her two children into the Co-operative for a weekly shop.

As she entered, she gave her one-year-old boy, Jesse, a blueberry – as she had done many times before.

But this time, Jesse started to choke and began to panic – and his mother began signalling for help.

Emma, who is a trained first-aider, swiftly arrived at the scene and quickly reached into Jesse’s mouth and dislodged the blueberry – enabling him to breathe again.

Jesse’s mum said: “Emma is our hero of a lifetime and there are no words to describe how grateful we are to her.

“I can’t think about what might have happened, had she not been there that day.

“Angels do walk among us, and Emma is most definitely one of them!

“She will always hold a special place in our hearts.”
