Rare chance to see performance by award-winning Italian pianist

-

PARBOLD Douglas Music presents the leading Italian pianist, Alessandro Taverna, in a rare UK performance.

The international concert pianist will perform in the Auditorium in the Village Hall on Saturday, February 10.

Alessandro has been hailed by the British music critics as the “natural successor to his great compatriot, Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli”.

He is one of the most remarkable pianists of his generation and established his international career by winning top prizes at Minnesota Piano Competition, London International Piano Competition, Leeds International Piano Competition and Busoni Piano Competition in Bolzano.

His success has led to many engagements with the most prestigious orchestras all over the world.

The conductor Lorin Maazel was so enthused by his playing that he invited him to tour with the Vienna Philharmonic in 2012.

For his artistic achievements and his international career, in 2012 Alessandro was awarded the Premio Presidente della Repubblica by the Italian State President.

In Parbold, he will be presenting a programme of virtuosic, poetic pianoplaying.

Exploring the theme of the festive exuberance of carnivals and masques, undercut by the jester’s sorrow, he will be playing Claude Debussy’s Masques, Robert Schumann’s Carnaval and Carnival in Vienna and movements from Igor Stravinsky’s ballet suite Pétrouchka.

A limited number of stand-by tickets is always available at the box office on the evening of the concert.

Concert tickets cost £16 or £5 Young Persons and Students.
