Gymnast Dan opens Aldi supermarket
OLYMPIC bronze medallist Dan Purvis has opened the new Aldi supermarket in Birkdale.
The Southport gymnast cut the ribbon outside the Liverpool Road supermarket alongside store manager Lizzi Liggat at a grand opening last week.
The store, which is the second Aldi to open in Southport, opened last Thursday after completion of work on the site of the former Birkdale Trading Estate.
After the store opening celebrations, the Team GB gymnast paid a visit to Birkdale Primary School to deliver an inspirational assembly about his career, and the importance of living a healthy lifestyle. The talk came as part of the supermarket’s Get Set to Eat Fresh initiative, which hopes to teach 1.2 million children about the benefits of cooking fresh, healthy food.
The first 30 customers to queue outside the new store each received a complimentary bag full of fruit and vegetables from Aldi’s Super 6 range.
Dan said: “I had a fantastic day at Aldi Southport. It was great to give back to a community so close to where I grew up. I hope I helped inspire customers to stay active and maintain a healthy, balanced diet.”
