More than £5k raised at club’s Gentlemen’s Day

SATURDAY saw the first ever Gentlemen’s Day at Southport Rugby Football Club and those in attendance were richly rewarded by two terrific home wins for the Seconds and Thirds and then entertained by former Liverpool FC defender and TV pundit Mark Lawrenson and comedian Jamie Sutherland.

The youthful Second XV excelled in toppling unbeaten league leaders Aldwinians 2s 22-15 in a thriller with the Thirds doing their bit in overcoming their counterparts from Widnes. Sadly, the Firsts’ woes on their travels continued plummeting 7-65 at vibrant Glossop. Least said best mended, hopefully starting at home to bottom of the table Liverpool Collegiate this Saturday.

The Seconds and Thirds are at Preston Grasshoppers and Merseyside Police respectively.

No game for the Colts last Sunday but the Ladies went down 12-17 at Manchester.

A magnificent sum in excess of £5000 was raised for Cancer Charities from the Gentlemen’s Day. A great effort by Sue Astwood and Louise Dale and their hardworking teams.
