LARKFIELD Primary School raised £310 for Children in Need with a bring and buy sale.

Rather than hold a mufti day as in previous years, the school council decided to organise the sale.

Children were asked to donate games, books, soft toys and DVDs to sell.

Janice Kenrick, a year 4 teacher who helped organise the sale at the school in Preston New Road on Wednesday, November 21, said: “We had a council meeting and we were talking about different ideas for raising money.

“They brought up the bring and buy sale, and Blue Peter had been talking about them.

“Hence, this year we’ve gone with it.

“It’s not just the big charities, it’s those little charities too and if you watch Children in Need you realise how much families benefit from it as well as the smaller charities.

“It’s an umbrella charity that collects so that different charities benefit from it. It really brings it home to you how lucky we are.”

The school councillors were responsible for selling the items during the afternoon sale, and children were delighted with their purchases.

Izzy, a Year 5 school councillor, said: “I’ve been setting up and selling stuff, for £1, 50p or 20p for the bring and buy sale.

“I think it’s important to help because we can’t just leave people in need, we need to help them, it’s important. They might not even be the best people in the world but they’re still important.

“I’ve been selling dolls and dolls houses. I’ve sold lots.”

Bilal, a Year 6 school councillor, said: “For people whose parents can’t support them as much, we can give that support that parents usually give to those who need it.

“Everyone’s equally important.

“It’s been well supported, we’ve sold quite a lot, and it was nice to get an afternoon off school!”
