AN AINSDALE woman has been arrested on suspicion of burglary, theft, and being carried in a stolen car.

She was arrested in Moor Lane, Crosby, on Sunday evening with a woman from Croxteth and three men from Vauxhall.

Witnesses described officers “hiding” in Moor Lane, before throwing a “stop-stick” tyre puncturing device in front of a speeding Ford Focus that was believed to have been stolen. The car hit a wall before its occupants were arrested with the help of police dog-handling teams.

Pictures taken by witnesses show patrol cars parked at the roadside, while a man stands in the road with his arms in the air surrounded by officers.

Police said a 22-year-old woman from Ainsdale, a 19-yearold woman from Croxteth, and three men from the Vauxhall area, aged 18, 20 and 39, were arrested on suspicion of burglary, theft, and being carried in a stolen car. A spokesperson said on Monday: “We have arrested five people and recovered a suspected stolen vehicle following a pursuit in Crosby last night.

“At around 8.10pm, a suspected stolen Ford Focus was sighted in the Crosby Road area, which failed to stop for patrols in Moor Lane. Following a short pursuit, the car was stopped by traffic officers on Moor Lane, and five people were detained with assistance from dog patrols.”

All the suspects were taken to police stations for questioning.

One witness, who did not wish to be named, said: “All we seen was police hiding down the road, and they stung a car with a stinger heading up Moor Lane towards Crosby Village, and then the car came back down Moor lane towards Thornton and they hit it into someone’s wall and police dragged about five people out of a car.”
