Man suf­fers ‘ma­jor trauma’ in crash

A DRIVER suf­fered ma­jor in­juries af­ter crash­ing into a lamp-post in Birk­dale.

The man, aged around 20, had to be cut free by fire-fight­ers af­ter smash­ing his car on West­borune Road.

Of­fi­cers cut the roof of the Toy­ota Aygo to free the man, who was then rushed to hospi­tal with in­juries to his back, arm and ab­domen.

North West Am­bu­lance Ser­vice de­scribed the in­juries as “ma­jor trauma”.

No other ve­hi­cles were in­volved in the col­li­sion, which hap­pened shortly be­fore 9am on Tues­day morn­ing.

A spokesman for Mersey­side Fire and Res­cue Ser­vice said: “Fire crews at­tended a road traf­fic col­li­sion in­volv­ing three ve­hi­cles to­day, Tues­day 4th De­cem­ber, on West­bourne Road, South­port.

“Crews were alerted at 8.58am and were on scene at 9.05am. Two fire en­gines at­tended, as well as the search and res­cue team.

“On ar­rival, crews found all ve­hi­cles to be on all four wheels.

“Fire­fight­ers used hy­draulic cut­ting equip­ment to re­move the roof of one of the ve­hi­cles to ex­tri­cate one per­son.

“They were handed into the care of North West Am­bu­lance Ser­vice and taken to hospi­tal for fur­ther treat­ment.”
